When Cut data matches the default or ideal data specific for the selected Tool Type, the DOC and WOC fields turn Green in color:

This article describes how to balance the Cutter Engagement and find the most efficient way of removing material.

Internet Access Permissions

March 1, 2015, 3:58 pm

Certain features in HSMAdvisor require Internet access.

Such as all Floating License types require Internet connection at least once a month to our licensing server.

Permanent Licenses do not depend on licensing server for license authorizations, so they do not require Internet access.

We care for our customers and we want them to receive latest updates that improve stability, performance and overall user experience.

Thus HSMAdvisor will, by default, connect to the Internet upon startup to check for updates and notify our users when updates are available.
You can turn this feature off on "Settings" tab.

Whenever a firewall or anti-virus is installed on computer, you may be prompted by it to either deny or allow HSMAdvisor Internet connection.

It is advised to allow HSMAdvisor to connect to the Internet as you may be denied your Floating License renewal or you may not receive notifications about important updates.

February 15, 2016, 8:41 pm

An integral part of HSMAdvisor is its very powerful Tool and Cut Database also known as Tool Database

Tool Database allows you to not only store your tools in one convenient location sparing you the time needed to key-in your tool type, size etc.
It is very flexible and since its inception has grown both in size and functionality.

With every update the list of its features keeps growing and at present it can (among many other things) do the following:

  • Store and Edit geometric Tool data, Including automatic creation of tool data from a sample tool entry.
  • Store/Create/Manage Custom Tool Manufacturer Cutting data using Manufacturer Brand/Series names
  • Store and Manage Tool Handling data like: Number of Tools in stock, Ordering Vendor Information, Physical location in the shop
  • Set up Low Tool Stock warning levels and add tools, that are low on stock to a Request List to be ordered.
  • Create and Export customizable Tool Request Orders for use in purchasing.
  • Restock received tools into the Tool Database
  • Attach Cutting Data (Known as just "Cuts") to tools for various cutting scenarios in different materials.
  • Store complete MasterCAM Tool and ToolPath parameters for easy importing/Exporting of MC operations
  • Organize Tools into Libraries
  • Share a single Tool Database between many HSMAdvisor seats in real-time.

In the following articles we will describe the main functions of the Tool Database

Custom Speeds and Feeds

January 16, 2020, 5:43 pm

HSMAdvisor allows users to create their own Speeds and Feeds tables for various Tool-material combinations.

Custom Speeds and Feeds tables (aka Custom SF Tables) are linked to the tool by using the combination of manufacturer's Brand Name, Series Name and optionally Insert Name (aka. Manufacturer Names)

Whenever the tool's Manufacturer Names match one of the Custom SF Tables, HSMAdvisor tries to fetch the custom Speed and Feed information for the currently selected material. The Custom Speeds and Feeds panel will then display a green "M" icon.

If Custom SF Table contains a definition for a Material Group, all materials withing such Material Group will have the same custom Speeds and Feeds.
Is this case the Icon will be Yellow/Green - A/M

Here is how the whole process looks like from the creation of the tool to the creation of the Custom SF Tables:

How HSMAdvisor Floating License Works

October 6, 2019, 5:25 pm

Floating License is a preferred type of license when computer is connected to the internet.

It has multiple advandages like ability to be used on multiple computers and easier license transfers that do not invole sending an email with license-transfer request.

Here is how Floating License works:

After a floating licens eis activated on a computer it pings the license server every 10 minutes* to renew the seat.

If in the meantime the seat was requested by another computer, the seat renewal will fail and you will get an error message saying that "The seat is busy".

This usually only happens when you try use HSMAdvisor on more than one computer.
In such case consider upgrading to a 2 seat license.

You can also change how often HSMAdisor pings the server by going to Settings and choosing a different "Floating License Parking Period"

As courtesy i will reset parked seats for users who need urgent license renewals on other computers (ie: accidental choosing of longer than needed License Parking Period, or other things like changing of eployer, computer upgrades etc.)
